IRIM robotics lab tours and demonstrations conducted during National Robotics Week inspires students of all ages to pursue careers in robotics and other Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields.
Kids + Robots = Fun for 2024 National Robotics Week at GT
IRIM hosted its annual education outreach event for National Robotics Week on April 9th, 2024. The faculty opened their labs to 124 local students ranging from grades 3rd through 8th, as well as 25 interested parents and teachers, with graduate students running demonstrations and Q&A sessions throughout the day.
The open house gave both students and adults the chance to interact with the Humanoid robot Pepper as well as learn about ongoing research with ESTHER the tennis playing robot. They also had the opportunity to see a Boston Dynamics Spot in action, as well as give him well deserved pets for his work. The highlight of the tours, gauged by the exuberant volunteer participation, were the two robot arm “training stations” where the students were able to direct a robot arm to pick up and place different objects using a joystick interface in one station and a body movement mimicking framework in another.
Thanks to the Volunteers that Made this Event Such a Success!
