TechArts Festival and other calendar highlights

Call it STEM to STEAM. As many institutions of secondary and higher education narrow their focus on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects, a movement is afoot to promote awareness of the importance of art and design as tools of innovation and creative thinking (STEAM). So avers Georgia Tech, whose TechArts Festival, which runs through March 1, encompasses dance, music, art, theater and poetry. The intersection of art and science is well represented by the Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition, which rewards new ideas in musical instrument design, engineering and performance.
