Roll-to-Roll Facility Celebration and Road-mapping Workshop

The Strategic Energy Institute (SEI), Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, and Georgia Tech Manufacturing Institute (GTMI), invite you to the unveiling ceremony and road mapping workshop for the advanced pilot scale Roll-to-Roll (R2R) Facility on September 19, 2024.

Join us to learn about the facility, how to engage with Georgia Tech and its faculty and staff as it relates to the R2R, and to continue developing a roadmap based on your interests, needs, and opportunities for future collaboration with Georgia Tech. The celebration of the R2R facility and related programming include:

Importance of scaling up materials and its implications across a broad range of cross cutting materials and areas.
11:10 amOpening Remarks: Tequila Harris
Presentation of the new R2R (the modules) and how it can be used to advance fundamental/lab scale research to the pilot scale 
11:30 amWorking with GT: (Ric Hubler)
Working with GT: Overview of how we move forward: Consortium Model for collaborative work that is mutually beneficial for most/all participants and potential levels (Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver) where one has more voting power depending upon their level of engagement to select projects. Rates for independent users (internal and external) including the rates for users. Development of various Centers, e.g., a Highly Advanced Roll-to-Roll i-Manufacturing Systems Center, the Advanced Battery Center, etc.

Breakout Road mapping sessions - lead with some initial questions and open discussion in small groups 
 

  • Membranes: Separations used for water and energy applications – Sankar Nair 
  • Electrodes: Conductive slurries used for battery, fuel cell, and other ceramic based applications – Matthew McDowell 
  • Flexible Electronics: Electronic inks used for sensors, transistors, etc. - Anju Toor 
  • Manufacturing Tools: Discussion regarding existing tools and a push towards novel tools as it relates to their design and implementation as well as use. –Tequila Harris
