Manufacturing USA is a national network of 18 innovation institutes focused on advancing cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and workforce development through collaboration among the industry, academia, and government sectors.
Each institute within the network focuses on a specialized area of technology, working collaboratively to drive innovation, strengthen domestic supply chains, and cultivate a highly skilled workforce. Georgia Tech is a member of 10 Manufacturing USA institutes. See below for the list of memberships.

America Makes
America Makes is the national accelerator for additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D printing, uniting industry, academia, and government to drive innovation and U.S. manufacturing competitiveness. Its research focuses on advancing AM design, materials, processes, and value chain integration, guided by a comprehensive technology roadmap.

ARM Institute
The ARM (Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing) Institute conducts applied research focused on advancing robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to strengthen U.S. manufacturing. Its projects target key industrial sectors—such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, and textiles—by developing, scaling, and commercializing robotics solutions that are typically at Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 4–7.

ARMI BioFab USA
The Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI), through its BioFabUSA program, leads U.S. efforts in developing scalable, secure, and cost-effective regenerative medicine technologies. It focuses on manufacturing cells, tissues, and organs by integrating science, engineering, and advanced biomanufacturing.

BIOMADE
BioMADE (Bioindustrial Manufacturing and Design Ecosystem) is a U.S. Department of Defense-sponsored innovation institute focused on advancing bioindustrial manufacturing. It supports the development and scaling of biomanufacturing technologies that convert agricultural feedstocks and waste into high-value products like chemicals, materials, fuels, and bioplastics.

MxD is the nation’s digital manufacturing and cybersecurity institute, focused on transforming U.S. manufacturing through the adoption of digital technologies. It conducts applied research in areas such as cybersecurity for manufacturing, digital twin development, AI integration, and data-driven production systems. MxD also partners with the Department of Defense and industry leaders to co-invest in R&D, pilot projects, and workforce development initiatives that enhance national security and economic competitiveness.

RAPID
RAPID (Rapid Advancement in Process Intensification Deployment) is a Manufacturing USA institute led by AIChE, focused on transforming the process industries through modular chemical process intensification (MCPI). Its research targets the development of smaller, more energy-efficient, and cost-effective chemical manufacturing systems by integrating advanced modeling, simulation, and novel reactor technologies. RAPID also supports projects that scale up emerging technologies—such as electromagnetic reactors and continuous processing—to accelerate commercialization and reduce environmental impact.

The REMADE Institute (Reducing EMbodied-energy And Decreasing Emissions) is a U.S. Department of Energy-sponsored innovation institute focused on accelerating the circular economy through applied R&D in reuse, remanufacturing, recycling, and recovery of energy-intensive materials. Its research targets the development of technologies that reduce lifecycle energy consumption and emissions in materials manufacturing, with emphasis on metals, polymers, fibers, and electronic waste.
