Finalists for the position of executive director of the Institute for People and Technology (IPaT) will be delivering vision presentations during the week of March 27 and April 3. The candidates have been asked to present their vision for IPaT, including details about their diversity, equity, and inclusion plans and perspectives on how to build a strong IPaT community that supports and develops its staff and researchers from across the Institute, and to take questions from the Georgia Tech community.

Maribeth Gandy Coleman is a Principal Research Scientist and Director of Research for the Institute of People and Technology.. She received a B.S. in EE and an M.S. and Ph.D. in CS from Georgia Tech. As a researcher her work has been focused on applying technologies such as wearable computing, augmented reality, and AI to develop human-centered systems for healthcare, job aids, education, collaborative work, and assistive technology. As the Director of Research she supports program development, corporate partnerships, community engagement, and project management for large transdisciplinary teams. She also ensures that the team has the capabilities to perform long term knowledge translation and tech transfer, helping GT’s fundamental research to achieve significant positive impact on society. As an example, she leads a multi-year initiative (funded by NSF, NIH, DOE, Oneclick.net, and ACT Inc.) to develop game-based interventions for cognitive therapy and assessment of older adults, persons with disabilities, and K-12 students. This team includes faculty and students from computing, digital media, psychology, linguistics, public policy, design, medicine, and occupational therapy as well as community groups such as school systems, churches, assisted living centers and the Emory Cognitive Empowerment program and the companies’ teams of scientists, business strategists, and engineers.
