Databases

All Georgia Tech researchers have access to Pivot, a comprehensive global source of funding opportunities.  

Grants.gov and SAM.gov are the federal government’s centralized systems for finding funding and procurement opportunities. 

Federal agencies maintain their own databases and alert systems for funding opportunities. Resources such as the NIH Guide to Grants and Contracts, National Science Foundation (NSF) Update, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) solicitations, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Extramural Grants, and NASA NSPIRES provide agency-specific announcements, policy updates, and application timelines across a range of research areas. 

Nonprofit-focused databases provide access to funding opportunities, philanthropic trends, and potential partners. Resources such as Candid, the Council on Foundations, America’s Charities, the Grantsmanship Center, and The Chronicle of Philanthropy help researchers identify funders, understand giving priorities, and stay informed about developments in the nonprofit sector.

Recurring Opportunities

The Office of the Vice President for Interdisciplinary Research maintains a calendar of Recurring Major Federal Funding Opportunities, those where awards are typically $1M or higher. 

Limited Submission Competitions

Limited Submission Competitions restrict the number of proposals an institution may submit; exceeding the sponsor limit can disqualify all applications.  

To ensure compliance, the Research Operations team administers an internal down-selection process to identify the approved Georgia Tech applicants. In most cases, this process is conducted through an internal competition, typically managed in InfoReady, Georgia Tech’s internal competition system.  

These opportunities are publicized through Research Alerts distributed to Associate Deans for Research (ADRs) and Interdisciplinary Research Institute (IRI) Directors and are often reinforced through the bi-weekly Research Bulletin.  

Internal Funding

The Office of the Executive Vice President for Research (EVPR) Georgia Tech Research Conference Support program is the central Institute funding mechanism for sponsoring faculty-organized research conferences, symposia, or workshops with an external focus. 

Internal Seed Grant Programs provide early‑stage funding to support emerging research ideas and team formation. Seed grant funds enable investigators to develop preliminary data, strengthen collaborations, and position projects for subsequent extramural funding opportunities.

The Office of Institute Relations is the primary resource for information on statewide and local community priorities and programs that may align with your work.
