The future of manufacturing is in Georgia.

Georgia Tech and Georgia Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing (Georgia AIM) are transforming smart technologies and cleantech manufacturing through innovative research, education, and workforce development.

As the state of Georgia is transforming into a manufacturing hub with significant public and private investments in cleantech, automotive, AI, and other key manufacturing sectors, Georgia Tech plays an integral role bringing its technological expertise to develop and elevate the workforce and create jobs in the region.

Learn more about the three strategic units within Georgia Tech that are focused on catalyzing the technological innovations in the manufacturing sector.

Georgia Tech Strategic Energy Institute

Our energy systems have a profound impact on nearly every sphere of our society. Concerns surrounding climate change, sustainability, affordability, and security have made the development of a clean and resilient energy portfolio a national priority. Through the Strategic Energy Institute (SEI), Georgia Tech is leading the efforts to bring innovative solutions to deliver sustainable, inclusive, and resilient energy to our communities and our world.

SEI is one of Georgia Tech’s ten Interdisciplinary Research Institutes and integrates energy activities across Georgia Tech. SEI serves as a hub for the more than 1,000 campus researchers working across the entire energy value chain – the largest energy research portfolio of any university in the US.

Georgia Tech Manufacturing Institute

The Georgia Tech Manufacturing Institute (GTMI) is one of Georgia Tech's ten interdisciplinary research institutes (IRI's) and part of the broader Georgia Tech research enterprise. GTMI’s major areas of research and development are on the design and development of advanced manufacturing systems targeting secure digital manufacturing, additive and subtractive processes, and large-scale production enterprises. Furthermore, GTMI is focused on the scale-up of manufacturing capabilities from laboratory and benchtop scale to pilot plant operations. The institute works with all of Georgia Tech's colleges, the Enterprise Innovation Institute (EI2), the Georgia Manufacturing Extension Partnership (GaMEP), other IRIs, and the Georgia Tech Research Institute. We collaborate in a cross-discipline way to fully harness GT's strengths and resources.

Georgia Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing (Georgia AIM)

AI infusion into manufacturing makes manufacturing more efficient while generating thousands of high paying AI manufacturing jobs. Created to leverage innovative ideas and programs in AI, Georgia AIM strives to propel Georgia manufacturing into the future.

Thanks to a grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), Georgia AIM is reaching all Georgia residents — including rural residents, women, Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC), those living with disabilities, and veterans, groups historically underrepresented in manufacturing. The grant also supports efforts to reach students in grades K-12, technical colleges, and four-year universities, as well as Georgians without a college degree. Through innovation, collaboration, education, and participation, Georgia AIM provides the tools and knowledge to empower all communities to fully participate in a diverse AI manufacturing workforce.
