Susan Hubbard
Deputy Laboratory Director
Susan Hubbard has over twenty-five years of experience at DOE National Laboratories, including in several leadership positions. She is the Deputy Laboratory Director at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) overseeing the Science and Technology and is the Executive Vice President for Science and Technology at UT-Battelle. Prior to her current role, she was an Associate Laboratory Director at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, a scientist at the U.S. Geological Survey, and a geophysicist in industry.
At ORNL, Hubbard helps to shape one of the nation's most extensive science and energy research portfolios, with a focus on breakthrough discoveries and their translation into energy and national security solutions. The portfolio spans materials sciences, computational sciences, nuclear energy, manufacturing, neutron sciences, biological and environmental sciences, isotope, and global security.
Hubbard is recognized as a pioneer in the field of hydrogeophysics, focused on using geophysical data and fusion approaches to remotely quantify how hydrological, geochemical, and biological processes interact and influence water availability, water quality, and carbon cycling in terrestrial systems.
She has been recognized for her scientific accomplishments as a member of the National Academy of Engineering and as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In addition to several named recognitions from professional societies, she is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union and a Fellow of the Geological Society of America.
