Lew Lefton
Associate Vice President for Research Computing
Lew Lefton received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Illinois in 1987, after earning a Bachelor's degree in Math and Computer Science from New Mexico Tech in 1982. He held positions at the University of California, Riverside and the University of New Orleans before joining the faculty of Georgia Tech in 1999. Lefton is currently the Associate Vice President for Research Computing. In this role he provides campus leadership on strategic technology investments, facilitates faculty use of shared resources, develops and promotes agile and sustainable cyberinfrastructure, and advises on the leveraging and management of research data to advance the campus research enterprise. Lefton also has a half time appointment as Assistant Dean of Information Technology for the College of Sciences, where he manages the Academic and Research Computing Services organization, which provides coordinated technology support across the College of Sciences. Lefton's interests include scalable computing, applied mathematics, data management, applications of humor, the maker movement, and hands-on STEAM education.
