Poster Session Guidelines

Each poster shall be a single rigid poster board 48 inches wide by 36 inches tall. All poster presenters must print and bring their own poster. Only display easels will be provided by the symposium organizers.

Following the poster guidelines listed below will enhance your presentation and make it more likely that the audience will understand your presentation and pay attention to your work.

  • Due to the limited poster size, please use your posters to illustrate significant data, details, graphs, and key experimental results. Photographs should be high resolution and large enough to be easily viewed. Posters should not be text heavy.
  • Authors should provide a poster title using letters large enough to be legible at ~10 feet. A 36-point font size works well for this. The title must be displayed at the top of the mounting board and include the authors’ names and affiliations.
  • The body of the poster should consist of several small sections, arranged to guide the viewer through an introduction, results, and finally conclusions and references. Making the poster self-guiding is useful as some attendees may read your poster when you are away or in discussion with other attendees.
  • Lettering should be clearly readable from a distance of five feet. We recommend nothing smaller than 14-point bold lettering be used anywhere on the poster. It is best to use 18 to 24-point letters for your main text. The use of color to organize sections of the poster is encouraged. Color graphs, and/or colored borders around black and white figures can be especially effective in making your poster easy to read. Under no circumstances should you simply put your typewritten paper on the poster board. Hand-written pages are similarly unacceptable.
