Richard DeMillo is the Charlotte B. and Roger C. Warren Professor of Computing at Georgia Tech. He was formerly the John P. Imlay Dean of Computing. Positions he has held prior to joining Georgia Tech include: Chief Technology Officer for Hewlett-Packard, Vice President of Computing Research for Bell Communications Research, Director of the Computer Research Division for the National Science Foundation, and Director of the Software Test and Evaluation Project for the Office of the US Secretary of Defense. He has also held faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin, Purdue University and the University of Padua, Italy. His research includes over 100 articles, books and patents in algorithms, software and computer engineering, cryptography, and cyber security. In 1982, he wrote the first policy for testing software intensive systems for the US Department of Defense. DeMillo and his collaborators launched and developed the field of program mutation for software testing. He is a co-inventor of Differential Fault Cryptanalysis and holds what is believed to be the only patent on breaking public key cryptosystems. He currently works in the area of election and voting system security. His work has been cited in court cases, including a 2019 Federal Court decision declaring unconstitutional the use of paperless voting machines. He has served as a foreign election observer for the Carter Center and is a member of the State of Michigan Election Security Commission. He has served on boards of public and private cybersecurity and privacy companies, including RSA Security and SecureWorks. He has served on many non-profit and philanthropic boards including the Exploratorium and the Campus Community Partnership Foundation (formerly the Rosalind and Jimmy Carter Foundation). He is a fellow of both the Association for Computing Machinery and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In 2010, he founded the Center for 21st Century Universities, Georgia Tech’s living laboratory for fundamental change in higher education. He served as Executive Director for ten years. He was named Lumina Foundation Fellow for his work in higher education. His 2015 book Revolution in Higher Education, published by MIT Press, won the Best Education Book award from the American Association of Publishers and helped spark a national conversation about online education.  He co-chaired Georgia Tech’s Commission on Creating the Next in Education.  The Commission’s report was released in 2018. He received the ANAK Society’s Outstanding Faculty Member Award.

Brendan Saltaformaggio

Brendan Saltaformaggio, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, with a courtesy appointment to the School of Computer Science. His research interests lie in computer systems security, cyber forensics, and the vetting of untrusted software. Saltaformaggio serves as the director of the Cyber Forensics Innovation (CyFI) Laboratory. The CyFI Lab's mission is to further the investigation of advanced cyber crimes and the analysis and prevention of next-generation malware attacks, particularly in mobile and IoT environments. This research has led to numerous publications at top cyber security venues, including a Best Paper Award from the ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (CCS’15) and a Best Student Paper Award from the 2014 USENIX Security Symposium. Originally from New Orleans, Saltaformaggio earned his B.S. with Honors in Computer Science from the University of New Orleans in 2012. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science at Purdue University in 2014 and 2016, respectively, during which Saltaformaggio was honored with the 2017 ACM SIGSAC Doctoral Dissertation Award as well as two fellowships: the 2016 Symantec Research Labs Graduate Fellowship and the inaugural Emil Stefanov Memorial Fellowship in Computer Science.

Paul Pearce

Paul Pearce is an Assistant Professor at the Georgia Tech School of Computer Science and a Visiting Researcher at Facebook. By developing Internet-scale measurement platforms and new empirical methods, his research brings grounding and understanding to the study of large-scale, hidden Internet security problems. His work spans the areas of cybercrime, censorship, and “advanced persistent threats” (APTs). His work has been distinguished at the IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy, and he has been recognized as an EECS Distinguished Graduate Student Instructor.  Paul completed his Ph.D. at UC Berkeley advised by Vern Paxson and was a member of the Center for Evidence-based Security Research (CESR).

Taesoo Kim

Taesoo Kim is Professor in the School of Computer Science, College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology, which he joined in 2014 after completing his Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Kim is interested in building computing systems where underlying principles justify why it should be secure. Those principles include the design of the system, analysis of its implementation, and clear separation of trusted components. Kim seeks to develop tools that automatically identify which parts of an operating system have been affected, allowing a system administrator to recover from cyberattacks without excessive, manual effort. Since arriving at Georgia Tech, Kim has secured numerous reseach grants from the Office of Naval Research, the National Science Foundation, and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), among others. He continues to earn numerous honors such as the 2015 Internet Defense Prize from USENIX and Facebook, and he competed as a finalist in the inaugural DARPA Cyber Grand Challenge with Team Disekt. Kim holds two bachelor’s degrees -- in Computer Science and in Electrical Engineering -- from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) and graduated summa cum laude. He earned a Master’s in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT under Nickolai Zeldovitch before continuing under the same adviosr in its Ph.D. program. Kim is affiliated with the Institute for Information Security & Privacy at Georgia Tech and contributed to its predecessor -- the Georgia Tech Information Security Center.

Kyriakos G. Vamvoudakis was born in Athens, Greece. He received the Diploma (a 5 year degree, equivalent to a Master of Science) in Electronic and Computer Engineering from Technical University of Crete, Greece in 2006 with highest honors. After moving to the United States of America, he studied at The University of Texas at Arlington with Frank L. Lewis as his advisor and he received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2008 and 2011 respectively. From May 2011 to January 2012, he was working as an Adjunct Professor and Faculty Research Associate at the University of Texas at Arlington and at the Automation and Robotics Research Institute. During the period from 2012 to 2016 he was a project research scientist at the Center for Control, Dynamical Systems and Computation at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He was an assistant professor at the Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering at Virginia Tech until 2018. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor at The School of Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech. His research interests include approxIMaTe dynamic programming, game theory, and optimal control. Recently, his research has focused on cyber-physical security, networked control, smart grid and multi-agent optimization. Dr. Vamvoudakis is the recipient of a 2019 ARO YIP award, a 2018 NSF CAREER award, and of several international awards including the 2016 International Neural Network Society Young Investigator (INNS) Award, the Best Paper Award for Autonomous/Unmanned Vehicles at the 27th Army Science Conference in 2010, the Best Presentation Award at the World Congress of Computational Intelligence in 2010, and the Best Researcher Award from the Automation and Robotics Research Institute in 2011. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu and Golden Key honor societies and is listed in Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in America. He has also served on various international program committees and has organized special sessions for several international conferences. He currently is a member of the Technical Committee on Intelligent Control of the IEEE Control Systems Society (TCIC), a member of the Technical Committee on Adaptive Dynamic Programming and Reinforcement Learning of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (ADPRLTC), an Associate Editor of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine, an Associate Editor of the Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, an Editor in Chief of the Communications in Control Science and Engineering, a registered Electrical/Computer engineer (PE) and a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.

Dr. Fan Zhang received her Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering and M.S. in Statistics from UTK in 2019. She is the recipient of the 2021 Ted Quinn Early Career Award from the American Nuclear Society and joined the Woodruff School in July, 2021. She is actively involved with multiple international collaborations on improving nuclear cybersecurity through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the DOE Office of International Nuclear Security (INS). Dr. Zhang’s research primarily focuses on the cybersecurity of nuclear facilities, online monitoring & fault detection using data analytics methods, instrumentation & control, and nuclear systems modeling & simulation. She has developed multiple testbeds using both simulators and physical components to investigate different aspects of cybersecurity as well as process health management.
