Georgia Tech's School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is committed to engineering fundamentals, state-of-the-art technology, hands-on instruction, and interdisciplinary research to solve problems that are critical to quality of life. The basis of our research is to create a balance between the built environment and the natural environment, while addressing the complex challenges of globalization in the 21st Century. The Center for Transportation Operations and Safety conducts research on an everyday aspect of nearly everyone's life in the developed world; namely, traffic. Transportation operations aren't merely about wasting time stopped on the highway, or accidents. Much broader implications are at stake that relate to energy use, pollution, carbon emissions, public health, safety, economic impacts, and, yes, the efficient flow of traffic.
