Interim Vice President for Research

Rebecca Caravati is Interim Vice President for Research at Georgia Institute of Technology and serves as the General Manager, responsible for the financial and business affairs of Georgia Tech's two research corporations. The Georgia Tech Research Corporation (GTRC) and the Georgia Tech Applied Research Corporation (GTARC) are 501(c)(3) organizations that support Georgia Tech's research enterprise as contracting entities for sponsored research and through assignment of intellectual property developed at Georgia Tech.

Rebecca has served as the Executive Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) at the Institute. OSP is responsible for pre- and post-award contract administration for all Institute-sponsored awards funded by federal, state and local government agencies and other non-profit entities.

Prior to returning to Georgia Tech to serve as the Executive Director of OSP, Rebecca served as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer for the University of Georgia Foundation in Athens, Georgia.

Rebecca worked at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) for 23 years. As the Deputy Director for Finance and Research Administration at GTRI, she was responsible for four support units: Sponsored Project Support, Accounting, Budgeting and Finance, and Rates and Audits. As a member of the executive staff, Rebecca provided support for strategic planning and overall management of GTRI.

She has experience with both university government accounting principles (2 CFR part 200) and commercial accounting principles for government contractors (FAR31.2) and was instrumental in leading GTRI’s financial transition from A-21 to FAR31.2.

Prior to working at GTRI, Rebecca was employed as a senior auditor at Arthur Andersen and Co., then one of the five largest public accounting firms in the world. She also served as a Vice President and Assistant Treasurer at IRT Property Company, a real estate investment trust publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange and as the Manager of Financial Analysis at Larson Juhl, Inc., the world’s largest distributor and manufacturer of picture framing supplies.

Rebecca attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. In 2010, she completed the Board of Regents Executive Leadership Institute.
